Browser extension

The warning arrives before you hit send.

A companion extension that catches personal data as you type or paste into the AI tools you already use, anonymizes it with the desktop app over a connection that never leaves your machine, and puts the real details back in the answer.

How it works

Protect the prompt. Restore the answer.

BEFORE YOU SEND

Live DLP watch

On ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Gmail and Outlook, the extension checks what you type or paste and shows a warning the moment it spots personal data, with a one-click anonymize. While the warning is showing, the site's send button is paused. It never silently rewrites what you wrote.

AFTER THE ANSWER

Restore the real details

Once you have sent an anonymized prompt in ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini, each new answer gets a Restore button. One click puts the real names and details back into that answer, on your screen. The AI only ever saw placeholders.

ANYWHERE ELSE

Anonymize on demand

Select text on any page, open the toolbar popup, and choose Anonymize selection. The desktop app does the work and the popup shows the safe text with a Copy button. Select anonymized text later and the popup can restore it.

The connection

A browser extension with no server behind it.

The extension does not phone home. It calls the app already running on your own machine, and you control whether that link exists at all.

Stays on your machine

The extension talks only to the DataAnonymiser app running on the same computer. Nothing is reachable from another machine, and nothing goes over the internet.

You pair it yourself

The link between the extension and the app has to be set up by you, in the app's settings. Nothing pairs itself.

Off by default

The connection is disabled until you turn it on. If you never install the extension, it is never opened at all.

Nothing kept in the browser

The extension stores no text, only its pairing settings. The link between placeholders and real values lives in the desktop app's memory and is discarded when the session ends.

Pairing is explicit: you connect the extension to the desktop app from the app’s own settings, and test it before you rely on it. Nothing is paired automatically, and the connection stays off until you enable it.

Why both halves

Neither an extension nor an app is enough on its own.

Most competing tools pick one side of this and live with the gap.

Browser-only tools have a weaker engine

Anything that has to run inside a web page has to stay small enough not to make typing feel sluggish. Ours runs in the desktop app instead, where it has room to work — the extension just calls it.

Desktop-only tools miss the moment

The riskiest second is the one where somebody is already typing into a prompt box. An app you have to remember to switch to does not help then. The live watch does.

Neither one is a proxy

There is no traffic interception and no server in the middle. The extension talks to your own machine, and your text never crosses the network at any point in this path.

Questions

About the extension.

Does the extension send my text anywhere?

No. It talks to the DataAnonymiser desktop app on your own machine, over a connection that never leaves the device. There is no server involved in either mode.

Do I need the desktop app running?

Yes. Anonymizing, the live warning and restoring all run through the app on your machine. If it is not running, the extension says protection is unavailable rather than letting a field look clean.

Which browsers are supported?

Chrome, Firefox and Edge each have their own listing, and the Chromium-based browsers that run Chrome extensions — Brave and Arc among them — work from the Chrome one. On macOS, Safari is supported too: that extension ships inside the desktop app itself, so there is nothing separate to download.

Can it stop me from sending a risky prompt?

While a warning is showing, the extension pauses the site's send button, so a prompt with personal data does not go out by accident. Anonymize it, or dismiss the warning to carry on: you stay in control of what you send. It is a safety catch, not an enforcement gateway. Pressing Enter still sends, and a send button the extension does not recognise is left alone.

How does restoring an answer work?

The desktop app remembers which placeholder stands for which real value for the current conversation. When you click Restore on an answer in ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini, the extension asks the app for those values and writes them into the answer on your screen. Once restored, they are part of the page like any other text you see there. The mapping is kept in memory only and is discarded when the session ends.

Does it work on sites other than the five listed?

The live watch runs on ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Gmail and Outlook, and the Restore button appears on answers in ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini. The toolbar popup works on any page where you can select text.
