LOCAL PII REDACTION
PII redaction that never phones home
Most PII redaction services work by uploading your data to a cloud API. DataAnonymiser does the opposite: detection and removal run on your own device, so the sensitive data you are trying to protect never has to leave it.
Why local matters for PII
There is an obvious contradiction in sending your most sensitive data to a third-party cloud service in order to have that data 'protected'. Every upload is a new copy, a new log, and a new attack surface.
DataAnonymiser keeps the whole job on-device: finding the identifiers, replacing them, and the mapping that reverses it. Nothing about your content is transmitted, and there are no server-side logs to leak.
What it detects
DataAnonymiser identifies names, email addresses, phone numbers, physical addresses, government and financial identifiers, and health details across both text and images. Each detected identifier is replaced with a consistent placeholder, and you can add custom keywords for terms specific to your organisation.
Detection is best-effort, no tool catches every identifier in every phrasing, so DataAnonymiser also produces a residual-risk report for a human to review before the output is shared.
Works offline after activation
Once your subscription is activated and the app has finished setting itself up, redaction works without a network connection. An internet link is only needed for account activation, downloads, and updates, never for the anonymisation itself.
Frequently asked
Questions about this workflow.
Does DataAnonymiser upload my files to detect PII?
No. Detection and redaction run entirely on your device using a local application. Your files are never uploaded for processing.
Can it redact PII from images and screenshots?
Yes. The tool handles both text and images, detecting identifiers in screenshots and scanned documents as well as plain text.
Does it work without an internet connection?
Yes, after activation. The application runs offline; internet is only needed to activate your account and to download the app and updates.
